Implants 

The team at SmileWorks have been restoring dental implants for over 20 years, meaning they are amongst the most experienced dentists. Implants are usually the best solution for tooth-loss as they connect directly to the jaw bone. When a tooth is lost, bone loss will eventually occur as the root is no longer stimulating and stabilizing the bone. Through utilizing Titanium, which biochemically joins to the bone, you get the most accurately replicated bond.

Although you may not feel as though you need to replace a tooth if you lose one, it is important you do so as it may cause your appearance to look ‘caved in’, alongside affecting the jaw, muscles, jaw joints and the skin. 

The process of implants in Hove is started by placing a post in the jaw bone to support a replacement tooth, which acts like the root of a natural tooth. Crowns can be made from plastic, ceramic or metal alloys. A combination of metal and ceramic is also possible to maximise strength and stimulate the appearance of natural teeth. When undergoing crowns in Brighton, the dentist will be able to advise on material choices, treatment sequences and any other concerns you may have. If you decide to go ahead with a crown, the teeth are then prepared which involves reduction of the tooth size (with local anaesthesia) followed by an impression or mould of the prepared tooth. The teeth require trimming beforehand to create space for the crown to be fitted. The mould will then be sent to the laboratory for the crown to be created. A temporary crown is installed in the meantime. 

At the next appointment, the temporary crown is removed, and tooth surfaces cleaned. The completed crown is tried and then cemented with dental cement if the dentist is happy with the result. Crowns in Hove are made of inert materials that do not deteriorate over time; however, the underlying tooth is still prone to decay and gum disease.
